🩺 The value of work, learning, and opportunity through Work-Based Learning.🩺 This summer, two Goochland High School students took important steps toward exploring the healthcare industry through Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences.

Kendra, a junior, completed an Externship with Phoenix Physical Therapy in Goochland. This WBL experience provided her with the opportunity to see firsthand the vital role physical therapists play in helping patients recover, regain mobility, and improve their quality of life. Genevieve, a junior at GHS, completed several Job Shadowing experiences at an area hospital, gaining valuable exposure to the medical profession while exploring a future career as a physician.

For both students, these summer WBL experiences provided more than career exploration. They offered an opportunity to observe professionals in action, better understand workplace expectations, and connect their classroom experiences with authentic WBL experiences in the medical field. Both students said the opportunity solidified their desire to enter the medical field.
We are proud to celebrate our students who are already taking meaningful steps toward their future and business partners who help make those opportunities possible.

After a thorough review of circular saw safety—from eye protection to proper blade guard checks—students in Mr. Thomas' carpentry class stepped up to the line with total focus and precision.

Once the cuts were made, they put their hammer technique to the test to join their pieces together and bring their projects to life. High five to these students for keeping safety as the top priority while building awesome work! 🥽🪵🔨 #toGether

☀️ As summer comes to a close, we’re celebrating the value of work, learning, and opportunity through Career and Technical Education 🧑🏼‍🏭

This past Labor Day provided an opportunity to recognize the contributions of America’s workforce, and at Goochland High School, our students are already taking meaningful steps toward becoming part of it.

Two GHS seniors, Chase and Landen, spent their summer completing a Work-Based Learning (WBL) internship with Strickland MFG in Goochland. Through hands-on experience alongside industry professionals, including alumni of GHS, these Bulldogs gained a firsthand understanding of the skills, responsibility, teamwork, and professionalism required at America’s largest supplier of attachments for earth-moving, demolition & recycling equipment.
GHS and GCPS educators had the opportunity to visit the workplace and get a firsthand look at a typical day for our student interns, seeing the powerful connection between Mr. Matthew Gill’s classroom instruction, industry expectations, and authentic workplace experience. Way to go, Bulldogs!

As we transition from summer into a new school year, we are proud to celebrate our students, our Career and Technical Education educators, and the business partners who invest in preparing the next generation of Virginia’s workforce.

Huge congratulations to our Goochland High School Marine Corps JROTC program! They were officially recognized at Tuesday night's school board meeting 🇺🇸✨

Our Cadets have earned the prestigious distinction of being named a Marine Corps JROTC Naval Honor School—placing them in the top 20% of all MCJROTC units nationwide and making them one of only THREE programs in Region 8 to receive this honor!

This national recognition is a testament to the hard work of our Cadets and the incredible leadership of Senior Marine Instructor LtCol Kevin Williams (USMC, Ret.), SgtMaj Kluge (USMC, Ret.), and former instructor SSgt Strong (USMC, Ret.). Together, they’ve built a tradition of excellence, discipline, and selfless service that connects and inspires our entire community.

Help us celebrate this milestone—drop a message of congratulations for our Cadets and instructors in the comments below! 👇 Goochland proud! 👏

We are excited to announce our August student-athletes who excel at balancing academics and athletics while displaying leadership and hard work. August's winners are Meredith Rula and Jack Sojda. Meredith is a sophomore starter on the volleyball team, and Jack is one of the top golfers on our team. Jack, a junior, recently shot a 34 over nine holes, which is the lowest individual Bulldog score in recent history.

These individuals are great representatives of our school and exemplify what it means to be a student-athlete. Congratulations, Jack and Meredith - thank YOU for representing our Bulldog Family!
