Scheduling 2023-24 School Year

This past week, School Counselors went into 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade English classes to help students register for their classes for the next school year.

The PowerSchool Parent Portal is open to make and change course requests until Sunday, February 5th.

Many students scheduled their one-on-one Academic and Career Planning meetings with their school counselor, but if they did not, please encourage them to do so.  Parents are welcome to attend those meetings virtually or in person with their child as we update their academic and career plans and make sure students are on track for their graduation requirements.

Smart Pass

Beginning on Wednesday, February 1st, GHS will roll out electronic hallway passes to students through a Smart Pass program.  These electronic passes, which are created using students’ GCPS-issued laptops, should streamline the process for students needing to visit the restroom, office, water fountain, or clinic, and provide a safer learning environment.  Students will not use student cell phones for SmartPass. Students were shown this video in Block 1 on Monday, January 30th to train them on how to use the system when creating passes.  Watch more short tutorials on the SmartPass Website.

Traffic- New GES

There will be more traffic on Bulldog Way due to the construction of the new Goochland Elementary School.  This will include heavy equipment and at times road crews.  Please take this into consideration as you travel to and from GHS.

Wanted: Lost Library Books and Technology

Please check around the house for any library books, textbooks, or loaner GCPS technology. We have more than 170 students that have overdue items. All items can be returned to the Learning Commons. We do not assess fines, but we do charge for lost books and laptop chargers. Please email Ms. Palmer (apalmer@glnd.k12.va.us) if you have any questions.

Winter Pep Rally

We will hold our Winter Pep Rally on Friday, February 3rd. If your student would prefer a quiet room instead of attending the pep rally, please have them send a Canvas message or email Mr. Hahn (bhahn@glnd.k12.va.us) so they can be added to the list.

Yearbooks

To pre-order your 2023 yearbook, please go to balfour.com. Currently, the price is $70.  To avoid over-ordering, we will ONLY order enough yearbooks this year for those who pay by February 1, 2023.
