 Exam Schedule

GHS Midterm Exam Week begins on Monday, December 12th, and ends on Thursday, December 15th. School will operate on a normal bell schedule for exams, but each block has a specified examination period in hopes to prevent students from having more than two exams on any given day. Not all teachers will administer an exam, so please check with your child’s teachers if you are unclear. Here is the exam schedule for the week:

  • Monday, December 12th: Day 2/Block 1 and Day 2/Block 3 exams

  • Tuesday, December 13th: Day 1/Block 1 and Day 1/Block 3 exams

  • Wednesday, December 14th: Day 2/Block 2 and Day 2/Block 4 exams

  • Thursday, December 15th: Day 1/Block 2 and Day 1/Block 4 exams

We will end the week with an early dismissal at 1:35 pm on Friday, December 16th

 Grades

As a reminder, the end of marking period 2 and semester 1 is Friday, December 16th. Students, please make sure that all of your marking period 2 work is completed and turned in to your teachers. Parents, feel free to reach out directly to your child’s teachers with any specific questions about grades and assignments. Let’s close out the 1st semester strong!

Holiday Performances

Come out and enjoy a night of holiday festivities and get into the holiday spirit!  GHS Performing Arts Department will host its annual Dance Recital on Wednesday, December 14th at 6:30 PM.  The chorus will have its winter holiday concert on Thursday, December 15th at 7:00 PM.

The next permit test will be offered on Wednesday, December 14th. This will be held in the IDEA Lab during Bulldog Block. Please sign up here! If you have questions, please see Coach Farkas or Coach Gibbs.

 MERC Advanced Coursework Survey

On Monday, January 9th during Block 1, students will be invited to complete a survey related to Predictors of Secondary School Students' Enrollment in Advanced Coursework. This survey was created by the Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium in the School of Education at Virginia Commonwealth University in partnership with Goochland County Public Schools. The purpose of the survey is to learn more about how students feel about the classes they are taking this year and how they decided to take them. The entire survey can be previewed here. Parents who choose to opt their child(ren) out of participation in this survey may do so by emailing Catherine Richards, GHS Survey Coordinator, at crichards@glnd.k12.va.us. Students will also have the option of not participating on the day the survey is administered.

 Public Speaking/Scholarship Opportunities

Our local American Legion Post would like to invite students to participate in the 2022-23 Oratorical Speech Competition. Students are asked to prepare a speech on one of the assigned U.S. Constitution topics: https://www.legion.org/oratorical/topics. Winners at the local level will then advance to the state and national level, with the opportunity for scholarships along the way. The contest is open to grades 9-12.
