All Night Graduation

The All-Night Graduation Committee (ANG) would like to thank all of those who helped make the Poinsettia sale as well as the Spirit Night at Bella Sicilia's a great success.  None of what they do would be possible without your support.

ANG will have their next meeting on Tuesday, December 6th at  Bella Sicilia's starting at 6:30 PM. This is a great way to be involved in the planning of future events.

Lastly, to help stay connected for future events through ANG, please use their Google page or follow their Facebook page.

Cap and Gowns

ATTENTION SENIORS!

It’s time to celebrate your senior year and prepare for graduation.  The Jostens representative will be here at GHS one final time during lunch Tuesday, December 6TH.  This is the absolute last time Jostens will be on hand  to help you order your official graduation announcements, cap & gown unit, and class of 2023 senior apparel & keepsakes.

Be advised that if you do not order Tuesday in person you must order online no later than Friday, December 9TH if you wish to receive some of the formal school announcements and group pricing on your cap & gown unit.

After December 9TH, group pricing will end and our official school announcements will not be available.

Thank you For your attention to this important matter.

College Acceptance

Seniors! We would love to acknowledge your college acceptances as you receive them.  Please fill out this form to let us know how we can recognize YOU!  See your counselor with questions!

Dress Code

With the weather getting colder, we want to remind students that wearing hoods on their heads is not permitted while in the building.  We appreciate your attention to this district-wide GCPS policy.

Exam Schedule

GHS Midterm Exam Week begins on Monday, December 12th, and ends on Thursday, December 15th. School will operate on a normal bell schedule for exams, but each block has a specified examination period in hopes to prevent students from having more than two exams on any given day. Not all teachers will administer an exam, so please check with your child’s teachers if you are unclear. Here is the exam schedule for the week:

  • Monday, December 12th: Day 2/Block 1 and Day 2/Block 3 exams

  • Tuesday, December 13th: Day 1/Block 1 and Day 1/Block 3 exams

  • Wednesday, December 14th: Day 2/Block 2 and Day 2/Block 4 exams

  • Thursday, December 15th: Day 1/Block 2 and Day 1/Block 4 exams

We will end the week with an early dismissal at 1:35 pm on Friday, December 16th

Financial Aid Night

If you missed our Financial Aid Night last week with our GRASP Advisor, Lauren White and the Senior Assistant Director of Financial Aid at William & Mary College, you may view the RECORDING.  If you have any further questions about financial aid, our GRASP advisor Lauren White is available lwhite@grasp4va.org or you may contact your child’s school counselor.

Grades

As a reminder, the end of marking period 2 and semester 1 is Friday, December 16th. Students, please make sure that all of your marking period 2 work is completed and turned in to your teachers. Parents, feel free to reach out directly to your child’s teachers with any specific questions about grades and assignments. Let’s close out the 1st semester strong!

Come out and enjoy a night of holiday festivities and get into the holiday spirit!  GHS Performing Arts Department will host its annual holiday Band Concert on Thursday, December 8th at 7:00 PM.  Our Dance Recital will be on Wednesday, December 14th at 6:30 PM.  The chorus will have its winter holiday concert on Thursday, December 15th at 7:00 PM.

PSAT Scores

PSAT scores from the October testing session will be available to students between December 5th-6th.  Scores are only available online through your student’s College Board account.  During that time period, please go to studentscores.collegeboard.org and follow the step-by-step instructions to access scores.  A very helpful video can be found on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I6f51n3-dc

If you are in need of an access code, please contact Ms. Raenell Foster in the GHS School Counseling Office.  She can be reached at rfoster@glnd.k12.va.us

Student Illnesses

As we have done in the past, please help us create a safe and healthy school environment. If your student is sick, please keep them home from school. If a student has a fever, they must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before they can return. If they have diarrhea or have vomited, they can return 24 hours after the last occurrence. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Nurse Duffey (kduffey@glnd.k12.va.us.)

In order to excuse absences for these illnesses, please send a written note with your child to submit to Ms. Timberlake in the main office on the day they return to school.  Students with 10 or more absences will need to submit a doctor's note to excuse future absences.
