Athletics and Activities

The GHS FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) club will have its first large group meeting on Thursday, November 10th during Bulldog Block in room C143. The mission of GHS FCA is “To see our school impacted through Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.” There will be fun games, music, and an exciting guest speaker. All are welcome and please bring your friends.

Please visit www.GoochlandBulldogs.com for up-to-date schedule information. Many of these events can be streamed live at www.NFHSNetwork.com. Feel free to contact Joe Fowler (jfowler@glnd.k12.va.us) if you have any questions or need more information.

Goochland Baseball Hot Stove Event

The 2nd Annual Goochland Hot Stove League will be held on Saturday, November 19th, at Camp T. Brady Saunders Boy Scout Camp starting at 9:00 am. The event will include several former MLB, college players, and coaches, including the 1984 World Series Champion Tracy Woodson (this is a change from previous messages). There will be an opportunity for autographs, a food truck, and a silent auction. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance through Ticket Spicket. All proceeds benefit the Goochland High School Baseball Program.

This event is great for athletes considering baseball beyond high school and baseball fans in general. If you love baseball, we hope you will make plans to attend the 2nd Annual Goochland Hot Stove League event!

InterAct Club Candy Drive

Do you have extra Halloween candy that you would like to get rid of? The InterAct Club is holding a Candy Drive for the GHS Veterans Project and would love to have your extra Halloween candy. Your child can bring it to school and leave it in the brown bag in their Block 1 class or you can drop it off at Main Office. If you have specific questions, please contact Anteal Gargiulo (agargiulo@glnd.k12.va.us).

Marking Period 2 Interim

The MP2 interim is on Tuesday, November 15th. Please take a moment to view your child's grades in Canvas or PowerSchool. If you have specific questions about their grades, please contact their teacher.

PowerSchool & Canvas Reminders

As Marking Period 2 begins, we would like to remind you that official course grades can be found in PowerSchool and are updated weekly. If you do not have a PowerSchool account, please email Catherine Richards, our Instructional Technology Coach, at crichards@glnd.k12.va.us for your access code.

Canvas will allow you to view your child’s assignments, course content, and announcements from teachers. If you do not have a parent Canvas account, please follow the directions here to get started.

Remote Learning Day

November 8th, Election Day, has been identified as a remote learning day for students.  This means students will not come on site to school on this day.

  • Instruction will be delivered asynchronously.  This means our teachers will provide students with direction prior to November 8 for continued learning so that they can work independently without the need for support from an adult.  We do not want to create additional stress for our families on this day.

  • Teachers will be available for synchronous online academic support (i.e. Google Meet, phone conference, etc.) from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.  Students and parents can access synchronous academic support by messaging teachers directly via Canvas or email prior to November 8.  (Click here for directions on how to message in Canvas.)  Faculty email addresses can be found by going to the GCPS home page at https://www.goochlandschools.o..., selecting a school, then choosing the “Staff” button under the “Menu” header at the top of the page.

  • School counselors will be available for synchronous online support from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Parents and/or students should reach out to their school’s counselor via Canvas or email prior to November 8 in order to arrange for an individual online appointment.

Veterans’ Day Ceremony

On Monday, November 7th, GHS will hold our annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony at 10:30 am in the school auditorium. Our seniors will attend the event in person, and our underclassmen will view the ceremony via live stream from their block 2 classrooms. We also ask that our students and teachers wear red, white, and blue that day to honor our service members.

Please wish our MCJROTC Cadets and Band members luck as we celebrate America and those brave few who answered her clarion call to serve in her defense.

Winter Coat Driver

Goochland County Schools is hosting a Winter Coat Drive November 14th-November 18th, 2022.  We want to make sure every student who may need it, has a coat this winter!  Help us meet this goal, by making a donation of new or gently used coats of all sizes to all GCPS schools.  There will be a designated bin to drop off your donation by the front office at GHS.  If your child needs a coat, a google form will be sent out following our drive.
