Custodian Appreciation Day

Please join me in recognizing our amazing custodians at Goochland High School during National Custodial Appreciation Day, which is on October 2nd, 2022. Our outstanding staff consists of Ms. E. Hope, Ms. R. Hope, Mr. Jackson, Ms. Pleasants, Mr. Richards, Ms. Senegar, and Mr. Waddy. They are the folks who keep our building sanitary and clean throughout the school year, and we truly appreciate all they do to support our Bulldog Family. If you see them in the hallways or after school during an event, please take a moment to thank them for all they do.

Early Dismissal

Please plan accordingly, as Friday, October 14th, will be an early dismissal for our students. GHS students will be dismissed at 1:35 pm.

End of Marking Period 1

The end of our first marking period of the school year is Friday, October 14th. Please take some time to view your child’s current grades in PowerSchool before the end of the quarter. Feel free to communicate with their teachers if you have any questions.

Fire Rescue Show

The Goochland County Department of Fire-Rescue and Emergency Services is hosting a Fire-Rescue Show at Goochland High School on Saturday, October 8th, at 6:00 pm. They are planning an evening of fire and EMS demonstrations for Goochland County citizens and their children. It’s also a kick-off to Fire Prevention Week. To top it all off, a small fireworks show is planned to end the evening. This is an excellent opportunity to promote community risk reduction, while showcasing the department. Please consider coming out and spending an evening with your local Firefighters and EMS providers.

Gallup Poll Administration

Goochland High School will administer the Gallup Student Poll, a brief survey designed to measure student engagement, hope, and belonging, to students on Thursday, October 13th, during Block 2. The survey consists of 20 questions, takes about ten minutes to complete, and does not ask for personally identifiable information.

Examples of survey items include the following:

  • In the last seven days, someone has told me I have done good work. [Engagement Domain]
  • I have a great future ahead of me. [Hope Domain]
  • My classmates care about me. [Belonging Domain]

If you are interested in learning more about the Gallup Student Poll, please visit https://www.gallup.com/education/233537/gallup-student-poll.aspx or reach out to your child’s school. If you want to opt your child out of the Gallup Student Poll, please call the school or email Catherine Richards, GHS Survey Coordinator, at crichards@glnd.k12.va.us.

The feedback from this survey is extremely valuable as we continually work to provide our students with the best experience possible. Thank you.

Goochland High School Welcomes Tyde!

Goochland High School is excited to welcome our very own therapy dog into the Bulldog Family! A therapy dog is a dog that is trained to provide affection, comfort, and support to people and must pass a series of classes and tests. They differ from service animals, as well as emotional-support animals.

Tyde is a two-year-old Golden Labradoodle who loves going for rides in the car, belly rubs, playing fetch, treats, and being with people. Mrs. Lawson, the District Mental Health Counselor, and Tyde (canine) are a registered therapy dog team through Green Dogs Unleashed. Tyde will be a part of the GHS community to help increase social skills, communication skills, attendance, empathy, self-esteem, stress management, promote wellness, and many other things within the school community. He will be seen in the hallways, Learning Commons, counseling department, lunches, and greeting students in the morning. Teachers will also have the opportunity to schedule classroom visits with Tyde. We are so excited to announce that Tyde will be at GHS every Wednesday, beginning October 5th, 2022, to help support our Wellness Wednesday initiative at GHS.

Please join me in welcoming Tyde to the Bulldog Family!

Kindness Month

Every October, we celebrate Kindness Month at Goochland High School. Kindness is one of our Goochland High School Bulldog BARKS core values, and this month we challenge all Bulldogs to focus on doing kind acts for others. We are excited to spend the month with you spreading kindness across our school and community. Be on the lookout for our Kindness Month activities and posts throughout this month on Canvas.

We look forward to continuing to build upon our culture of kindness at Goochland High School!

Lockdown Drill

We will hold our second Lockdown Drill of the 2022-23 school year this week. These drills are required by state law and are great opportunities for us to ensure our students are prepared for any situation. PSAT Testing

On Wednesday, October 12th, students in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades will take the PSAT. The PSAT is the Preliminary SAT which is a timed test that prepares students for the SAT. Juniors taking this test can qualify for National Merit Scholarships and awards based on their scores. The PSAT will run until approximately 1:00 pm. Students will have an abbreviated schedule from 1:00 -3:35 pm following the administration of the PSAT. Seniors will have an ASYNCHRONOUS workday and should not report to school.

Please contact Dr. Stacey Rainbolt (srainbolt@glnd.k12.va.us) if you have any questions.

Senior Projects

Seniors have received information on the Goochland High School senior project through their government classes. Students received a packet containing an outline of the project, a project proposal form that must be filled out and returned no later than October 14th, 2022, and a timesheet to log their hours. Students must complete 30 hours of community service-oriented work by mid-May. Please note that students will not be permitted to walk at the GHS graduation ceremony in the spring if they do not complete their senior project. Also, note that Education for Employment and Blue Ridge Virtual Governor's School students complete a separate senior project through those experiences.

Please contact Alexa Bolt at abolt@glnd.k12.va.us with any questions.
