Attendance Awareness Month

September is Attendance Awareness Month. During September, we highlight the importance of school attendance and its impact on student success. When attendance is improved, so are academic achievements and graduation rates. Join us in talking with your students this month about the importance of regular school attendance and reflecting on your expectations for their attendance. Thank you in advance for your support!

Fire Rescue Show

The Goochland County Department of Fire-Rescue and Emergency Services is hosting a Fire-Rescue Showat Goochland High School on Saturday, October 8th, at 6:00 pm. They are planning an evening of fire and EMS demonstrations for Goochland County citizens and their children. It’s also a kick-off to Fire Prevention Week. To top it all off, a small fireworks show is planned to end the evening. This is an excellent opportunity to promote community risk reduction, while showcasing the department. Please consider coming out and spending an evening with your local Firefighters and EMS providers.

Gallup Poll Administration

Goochland High School will administer the Gallup Student Poll, a brief survey designed to measure student engagement, hope, and belonging, to students on Thursday, October 13th, during Block 2. The survey consists of 20 questions, takes about ten minutes to complete, and does not ask for personally identifiable information.

Examples of survey items include the following:

In the last seven days, someone has told me I have done good work. [Engagement Domain]

I have a great future ahead of me. [Hope Domain]

My classmates care about me. [Belonging Domain]

If you are interested in learning more about the Gallup Student Poll, please visit https://www.gallup.com/education/233537/gallup-student-poll.aspx or reach out to your child’s school. If you want to opt your child out of the Gallup Student Poll, please call the school or email Catherine Richards, GHS Survey Coordinator, at crichards@glnd.k12.va.us.

The feedback from this survey is extremely valuable as we continually work to provide our students with the best experience possible. Thank you.
