Advance College Academy (ACA) Applications

Advance College Academy (ACA) is a dual enrollment program between Goochland High School and Reynolds Community College that allows students to earn a transferable associate of science degree in social science while completing a high school advanced studies diploma. ACA applications are open for current 9th and 10th-grade students until Friday, September 30th, 2022. Previously admitted students need not reapply. 

To be eligible for ACA admission, a student must complete Algebra II no later than 10th grade, a third year of language by the end of junior year, and be capable of maintaining a 3.0 high school GPA.

All Night Graduation Committee

The All-Night Graduation Committee (ANG) would like to thank Bella Sicilia Italian Restaurant and you for a very successful Spirit Night. The community support given to our Seniors was fantastic. 

The new 2023 Senior Shirts are here, and one for Mom and Dad! Please use this link to place your order. The first order closes on Monday, September 26th. ANG will hold special events throughout the year where they will offer free items for Seniors who wear their Senior shirts. The first ANG special event will occur at the Powder Puff game on Wednesday, October 12th. More information will follow closer to the event.

Additionally, ANG needs your help selling spirit gear at our home football games on Thursday and Friday nights. Please follow this link to sign up.

Athletic Boosters 

Goochland Athletic Boosters are excited to introduce their latest fundraising opportunity. They are selling Goochland Bulldog “slides” with two styles to choose from, and all proceeds will go to your favorite athletic team. They accept cash, PayPal, or checks written to Showoff Promotions. All orders must be in by Friday, September 23rd, with delivery dates between two and four weeks after orders are processed.

Attendance Awareness Month

September is Attendance Awareness Month. During September, we highlight the importance of school attendance and its impact on student success. When attendance is improved, so are academic achievements and graduation rates. Join us in talking with your students this month about the importance of regular school attendance and reflecting on your expectations for their attendance. Thank you in advance for your support!

Cell Phone Policy

As a reminder, students are not permitted to use cell phones during instructional time at Goochland High School. Parents, if you have an emergency and need to speak with your child immediately, please contact the main office at 804-556-5322. We ask that you please talk with your child about this at home. Thanks for your cooperation and support!

Fire Rescue Show

The Goochland County Department of Fire-Rescue and Emergency Services is hosting a Fire-Rescue Showat Goochland High School on Saturday, October 8th, at 6:00 pm. They are planning an evening of fire and EMS demonstrations for Goochland County citizens and their children. It’s also a kick-off to Fire Prevention Week. To top it all off, a small fireworks show is planned to end the evening. This is an excellent opportunity to promote community risk reduction, while showcasing the department. Please consider coming out and spending an evening with your local Firefighters and EMS providers.

Gallup Poll Administration

Goochland High School will administer the Gallup Student Poll, a brief survey designed to measure student engagement, hope, and belonging, to students on Thursday, October 13th, during Block 2. The survey consists of 20 questions, takes about ten minutes to complete, and does not ask for personally identifiable information.  

Examples of survey items include the following:

In the last seven days, someone has told me I have done good work. [Engagement Domain]

I have a great future ahead of me. [Hope Domain]

My classmates care about me. [Belonging Domain]

Gaming Club Interest Meeting

Any student interested in joining the Gaming Club should attend the interest meeting on Thursday, September 22nd, in the Learning Commons during Bulldog Block. This club will introduce students to new types of board games, video games, and roleplaying games. Please fill out this google form or see Mr. Green in the math hallway for a pass.

GCPS Family Assistance 

Are you looking for assistance with food or clothing for your family? Do you need extra help around the holidays? Goochland Schools is working with various organizations to provide our families in need with school supplies, food, holiday assistance, and clothing. If your family needs extra assistance, please complete this google form, and we will do our best to assist or connect your family with an organization that can help you!

Homecoming Floats

Attention students! Does your club or sports team want to create a float for our Homecoming Parade before the Homecoming Game on October 14th? Reach out to Mrs. Tate at rtate@glnd.k12.va.us for more information. We can't wait to see your Bulldog pride on Friday, October 14th!

MacBook Air Insurance Payments

All students should sign the AUP form on PowerSchool and can pay the $30 Macbook Air insurance fee using the Online School Payment System. This fee covers most laptop repairs and a one-time replacement of lost or damaged GCPS-issued technology. Without insurance coverage, all repairs and replacement costs are the responsibility of the student/parent.

Senior Projects

Seniors will receive information on the Goochland High School senior project this week through their government classes. Students will receive a packet containing the outline of the project, a project proposal form that must be filled out and returned no later than October 14th, 2022, and a timesheet to log their hours. Students must complete 30 hours of community service-oriented work by mid-May. Please note that students will not be permitted to walk at the GHS graduation ceremony in the spring if they do not complete their senior project. Also, note that Education for Employment and Blue Ridge Virtual Governor's School students complete a separate senior project through those experiences.

On Thursday, September 15th, our School Counseling team held Senior Night to provide seniors and their parents with valuable information regarding the college application process and life after high school. If you could not attend, you can view the slideshow or the event recording

Student Holiday/Teacher Workday

Please mark your calendars for Friday, September 23rd, as it is a student holiday. Teachers will participate in professional development that day. We look forward to providing our staff with opportunities to improve their craft.

Yearbook

Please consider purchasing your 2022-2023 yearbook for $60! This fantastic deal expires on January 1st, 2023, when prices will rise to $70. Make sure to order your yearbook through the Balfour website or scan any QR code on the yearbook signs in the school.
