GHS Teacher Of The Year
Congratulations to our 2022 GHS Teacher of the Year, Ms. Taylor Reahard! Ms. Reahard is one of our incredibly talented teachers who teaches our ACA Psychology classes. She is someone who cares deeply about each of her students, and they love her for it. Through her creative plans and cross-collaborative lessons, Ms. Reahard engages our students in critical thinking and problem-solving experiences. She also dedicates countless hours as our Senior class advisor and graduation planner. We are delighted to have Ms. Reahard represent us at the district level. Please join me in congratulating her on receiving this prestigious award!
Helping Paws Community Day
We are incredibly excited about our Annual Helping Paws Community Day on April 1st, 2022. Over seventy-five students signed up to lend a helping hand to our community members. Our students will volunteer their time at several locations around the county to show their gratitude for everything our community does to support our school. Parents, please let me know if you want to pitch in and help in any way.
We look forward to another fantastic day giving back to our community!
Health and Safety Reminders
We are grateful for the continuing CDC recommendations that guide our school system as we return to some degree of pre-pandemic practices. As we move forward, it is also important to remember to keep your children home when they are sick. Students who have a fever over 100 F must remain out of school for 24 hours fever-free without fever-reducing medications. If you are unsure if you should send your student, please contact Nurse Duffey (kduffey@glnd.k12.va.us).
As a reminder, while wearing masks in the school building is optional, individuals returning from isolation or quarantine are required to mask from Day 6 - Day 10. If students cannot do so, they should remain out of school for the entire ten days of their isolation or quarantine. If you have any questions about this, please contact Nurse Duffey (kduffey@glnd.k12.va.us).
Interact Club Hygiene Product Drive
Attention students, the Interact Club asks you to bring in hygiene product donations for Goochland Cares. Hygiene products such as toilet paper, bar soap, shampoo, deodorant, dish soap, laundry soap, and disinfectant wipes are preferred, but all donations are appreciated! We will collect donations during Bulldog Blocks from March 14th - 18th. As an incentive, there will be a breakfast treat party for the Bulldog Block that collects the most hygiene items. For more information, please contact Ms. Gargiulo (agargiulo@glnd.k12.va.us) or Ms. Rodriguez (arodriguez@glnd.k12.va.us).
Mock Interviews
We are excited to announce that GHS will host our fourth annual Mock Interviews Event on Wednesday, March 30th. Business leaders from around the Richmond-Metro area have volunteered to spend their morning with us to interview our students and provide them with feedback. This year, we have expanded the number of students participating, asking our seniors and CTE completers to participate.
We look forward to offering this fantastic opportunity for our students to prepare them to be career-ready!
Partnership For The Future
Partnership for the Future is a fantastic program that supports participating students pursuing post-secondary education. High school students gain invaluable access to college prep courses, personal development workshops, one-on-one counseling, and college savings-plan incentives through PFF. With the help of corporate and university partners, PFF arranges college visits and workplace internships that place students on a clear path from high school to college to the workplace. Interested students must apply for a position in the program, and applications are due on Tuesday, March 22nd.
Sophomore ACA Kick-Off Event
Sophomore ACA students and parents, please mark your calendars now for Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022, at 6:00 PM! You are cordially invited to join the Reynolds Career Coach, the ACA Site Director, current professors, and students that evening for our virtual ACA Summer Preparation Kick-off (available via Google Meet). We'll cover topics such as the required summer course outlines, payment timelines, communication channels, access to resources, and strategies for planning, surviving, and thriving beyond the summer. We can't wait to see you all there!
Spring MAP Assessments
MAP testing is a chance for students and teachers to see student growth over the school year. Spring MAP testing begins the week of March 21st in Math and English classes. We strongly encourage our students to get plenty of rest before taking these critical assessments. Contact your child’s Math or English teacher if you have questions.
TED Talks X Bulldog Block
Attention students: On Thursday, March 31st, during Bulldog Block, TED (Teens Empowering Diversity) Talks X Bulldog Block will provide an opportunity for students to share ideas through a speech, essay, poem, or another form of art. Participants will have a chance to share their perspectives and voice through the lens of our BARKS core values. Those in attendance at the event will experience a variety of viewpoints from our GHS Community. Students, if you need more information about becoming a speaker or attending this optional event, please complete the Google Form on Schoology in the Virtual Learning Commons.
