Following his inauguration this past Saturday, Governor Youngkin signed an executive order (effective January 24) that allows parents to “elect for their children not to be subject to any mask mandate” in effect at a school or educational program. The executive order does not require any reason, medical or otherwise, for a parent to send their child to school without a mask.
Until next Monday, January 24, the existing mask order remains in effect and masks will continue to be required indoors by staff, students, and visitors in our schools, buses, and offices this week.
Our division asks for your patience and understanding as our we navigate this current situation. Updates will continue to be shared via email, on our GCPS app, and through our various social media feeds in the days and weeks ahead.
