Please visit www.GoochlandBulldogs.com for up-to-date schedule information. Many of these events can be streamed live at www.NFHSNetwork.com. Feel free to reach out to Joe Fowler (jfowler@glnd.k12.va.us) if you have any questions or need more information.

Baseball Interest Meeting

There will be an interest meeting for any students interested in trying out for this year's Baseball Team on Tuesday, December 14th. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria during Bulldog Block. Coach Farkas will discuss preseason workouts, fundraising, and expectations for those planning on trying out. Please complete this survey if you plan to try out this spring, and see Coach Farkas if you have questions or cannot attend the meeting on Tuesday.

Bulldog Block Mindfulness Course

Students, are you feeling stressed? Would you like to learn and practice some stress-reduction techniques?  If so, consider signing up for the Bulldog Block Mindfulness course with Mr. Rooke during the 2nd semester.  The group will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays during Bulldog Block. You may sign up with a friend if you like, but there are a limited number of slots remaining, so act fast! Click on this link to learn more and sign up. Please email Mr. Rooke (jrooke@glnd.k12.va.us) if you have any questions.

Bulldog Corner Store

Do you need holiday gift ideas for family and friends? If so, look no further! Parents and students can order online through the Goochland High School website. Please contact Mrs. Whitmore (ewhitmore@glnd.k12.va.us) if you have any questions.

Exam Schedule

GHS Midterm Exam Week begins on Monday, December 13th, and ends on Thursday, December 16th. The school will operate on a normal bell schedule for exams, but each block has a specified examination period in hopes to prevent students from having more than two exams on any given day. Not all teachers will administer an exam, so please check with your child’s teachers if you are unclear. Here is the exam schedule for the week:

  • Monday, December 13th: Day 2/Block 1 and Day 2/Block 3 exams
  • Tuesday, December 14th: Day 1/Block 1 and Day 1/Block 3 exams
  • Wednesday, December 15th: Day 2/Block 2 and Day 2/Block 4 exams
  • Thursday, December 16th: Day 1/Block 2 and Day 1/Block 4 exams

We will end the week with an early dismissal at 1:35 pm on Friday, December 17th

Fall Athletics Awards Ceremony

We will celebrate the accomplishments of our fall sports athletes during our annual Falls Athletics Awards Ceremony on Thursday, December 16th, at 6:30 pm. Student-athletes and their parents or guardians should make plans to attend. We look forward to acknowledging our Bulldog athletes for their hard work and dedication during the fall athletic season.

Grades

As a reminder, the end of marking period 2 and semester 1 is Friday, December 17th. Students, please make sure that all of your marking period 2 work is completed and turned in to your teachers. Parents, feel free to reach out directly to your child’s teachers with any specific questions about grades and assignments. Let’s close out the 1st semester strong!

Patio Expansion

As a reminder, the back patio will be closed to students and staff as the patio expansion project continues this week. Upon completion, this project will ultimately provide greater outdoor space for students. Once again, any students who enter the building from the back parking lot must enter through Door 3 near the greenhouse in the mornings and afternoons rather than through the cafeteria doors. We recently received the good news that this project is nearing completion and should be finished by the new year!

PSAT Scores

PSAT scores from October are now back digitally. If a student provided an email during PTSA testing, College Board has emailed instructions directly on how to access scores. If no email was provided, please take a look at the College Board YouTube video on how to create an account and access scores. Parents, if your child still is not seeing scores after logging in, please email Mrs. Foster, school counseling secretary, at rfoster@glnd.k12.va.us for an access code. Paper scores will be sent to GHS from College Board after the first of the year. At that time, school counselors will go into classrooms and explain score results.

Summer Residential Governor's School Applications Are LIVE!

Summer Residential Governor's School applications are now available on the VDOE website. Each program is open to Sophomores and Juniors only. The programs are for four weeks during the month of July and are free to students. These fantastic opportunities take place on college campuses across the Commonwealth and offer a variety of fun and enriching activities to explore.

Be advised that you will need two teacher evaluations to apply, and applications are due on January 6, 2022. Please reach out to Ms. Coddington (ecoddington@glnd.k12.va.us) if you have any questions about specific programs or how to apply. GHS would love to have our students apply to these fantastic opportunities!

Yearbooks - Current Year

To pre-order your 2022 yearbook, please go to balfour.com. Currently, the price is $60.  The price goes up to $70 on January 1, 2022. To avoid over-ordering, we will ONLY order enough yearbooks this year for those who pay by February 1, 2022. Seniors can also purchase Senior ads at this site.

Finally, this will be the last School Messenger message of 2021. As we head into a well-deserved break, I would like to thank all of our students, parents, staff, and community members for a great first semester. I am truly amazed by the wealth of talent and opportunities we have in our small community. I would like to wish each member of our Bulldog Family a happy and safe holiday season!
