Custodian Appreciation Day

Please join me in recognizing our amazing custodians at GHS during National Custodial Appreciation Day that was on October 2nd, 2021. Our outstanding staff consists of Ms. E. Hope, Ms. R. Hope, Mr. Jackson, Ms. Pleasants, Mr. Richards, Ms. Senegar, Mr. Waddy, and Mr. Winkey. They are the folks who keep our building sanitary and clean throughout the school year, and we truly appreciate all they do to support our Bulldog Family. If you see them in the hallways or after school during an event, please take a moment to thank them for all they do.

Fall Play: Peter and the Starcatcher

Goochland Drama Department's production of Peter and the Starcatcher will take place the weekend of October 15th-17th. Based on the book Peter and the Starcatchers, this Tony Award-winning play is a precursor to the classic story of Peter Pan. In this comedy, guests follow the journey of Peter and his friends as they try to prevent pirates and other seafarers from stealing a treasure chest filled with a magical substance called "starstuff."

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students. To purchase tickets and more show information, please visit goochlandschools.org/drama

Financial Aid Support

The FAFSA opened on October 1st.  To get help filling out this form and getting as much money as possible for your child to go to college, please sign-up for a virtual meeting with Mrs. Laurie Deadrick, our GRASP Advisor.  You may also email her at goochland@grasp4va.org.

Financial Aid Night

The GHS School Counseling Department is partnering with GRASP and the University of Richmond Office of Financial Aid to provide a Financial Aid Night on Monday, November 1st at 6:00 pm.  This event will be virtual and accessed with this Google Meet Link (or by calling (US) +1 240-356-1446 PIN: ‪742 654 516#).

Homecoming Dance Tickets and Guests

Homecoming is upon us! If you are interested in purchasing a ticket to the dance, which will take place on Saturday, October 9th, at Leakes Mill Park, you can now do so through Thursday, October 7th, 2021, on our online school payment system. Tickets are $10 for a single ticket and $20 for a couple. If you are interested in bringing a guest who does not attend GHS, please see Ms. Coddington for a permission form. All guest forms must be completed before receiving your ticket. Outside guests must be out of middle school and 20 years old or younger. Please return all guest forms to Ms. Coddington or Ms. Timberlake.

Homecoming Parade

As we did in 2019, we will hold our Homecoming Parade before the game on Bulldog Way, which will be coordinated with the Goochland Sheriff's office. At 6:10 pm on Friday, October 8th, Bulldog Way will be closed temporarily to accommodate the parade route. You will not be able to get to GHS from 522, but you will be able to access the faculty parking lot from Route 6 during this time. Once the parade is over, the road will reopen, and we anticipate it to last less than 30 minutes. Our students are excited about the parade, so if you plan on coming to the game, get there early to watch the floats go by!

Homecoming Pep Rally

We will hold our Homecoming Pep Rally on Friday, October 8th, at 10:15 am. Our students will show their Bulldog pride with fun activities and another chance for their class to win the spirit stick. We look forward to making some noise on Friday!

Homecoming Spirit Week

We are incredibly excited about Homecoming week, as it is genuinely one of the best weeks of the year at GHS!

Here are the spirit themes for the week:

  • Monday: America Monday
  • Tuesday: Tailgate Tuesday
  • Wednesday: Western Wednesday
  • Thursday: Throwback Thursday
  • Friday: Bold Red & Gold Friday!

Also, students can join their classmates to decorate their class hallway after school on Thursday until 6:30 pm!

Kindness Month

Every October we celebrate Kindness Month at GHS. Kindness is one of our core values, and this month we challenge all Bulldogs to focus on doing kind acts for others. We are excited to spend the month with you spreading kindness across our school and community. Be on the lookout for our Virtual Kindness Month activities and posts throughout this month on Schoology. We look forward to continuing to build upon our culture of kindness at Goochland High School!

Middle School Wrestling Club

To any high school families who also have middle school-aged students: The GHS wrestling team is looking to officially start a middle school wrestling club for this upcoming winter sports season. Middle School participants would practice one to two days a week (after school). Any parents and students who are interested should attend an interest meeting on Thursday, October 7th at 6:00 pm in the middle school cafeteria. If you have any questions, please reach out to Coach Wampler (jwampler@glnd.k12.va.us).

New Twitter Account

We invite you to follow our new school Twitter account at @GoochlandHigh. We will highlight student learning experiences, activities, events, and more!

Patio Expansion

Beginning this Monday, October 4th, the back patio will be closed to students and staff as the patio expansion project begins. Upon completion, this project will ultimately provide greater outdoor space for students. Starting Monday, students who enter the building from the back parking lot must enter through the gymnasium in the mornings rather than through the cafeteria doors.

Powderpuff Football Game

Attention Junior and Senior Ladies: We will hold the annual Powder Puff football game on Wednesday, October 6th, at 7:30 pm. We look forward to seeing the Senior and Junior ladies on the gridiron on Wednesday night!

PSAT Day

On Wednesday, October 13th, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will join students around the nation in taking the PSAT. The PSAT is a standardized test which is a practice test for the SAT, one of the tests used for college entrance. It is a timed test; students will begin testing at approximately 9:30 am and finish around 1:00 pm. PSAT Day is an excellent opportunity to experience the testing environment for the SAT.

Since all underclassmen will take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 13th, Seniors will work asynchronously from home that day.

Senior Projects

Our government teachers distributed information about Senior Projects during classes two weeks ago. Students must submit the Project Proposal Form to their government teacher by Friday, October 8th, to receive a full credit grade in their government class. Students may return the hard copy form they were given in class or scan the QR code in the packet and submit it digitally. Please be aware that your child must complete a Senior Project to participate in Goochland High School's graduation ceremony at the end of the year. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Bolt (abolt@glnd.k12.va.us), our Senior Project Coordinator.

SOAR Applications

SOAR Virginia® is an Early Commitment Scholarship Program created and funded by Virginia529℠ to inspire and assist high school students in reaching their post-secondary education goals.

Current 10th graders are eligible to apply for this program. Fifteen students will be chosen from our application process.  To participate, eligible students pledge to meet program requirements. In return, students receive a range of assistance and may accumulate scholarship support of up to $2,000 to apply toward their post-secondary education expenses.

Interested students should fill out the application and return it to Mrs. Foster in School Counseling. For questions about this program, please contact Mrs. Deadrick, our GRASP Advisor, at goochland@grasp4va.org.

Sick Kicks Shoe Drive

We are excited to announce that Goochland High School will continue the Sick Kicks Shoe Drive program again this year! They began collecting shoe donations on Monday, September 27th, and scheduled the final collection day for Wednesday, December 1st. They chose these dates to allow maximum time for donations to be accepted and enough time for organizing, sanitizing, and sorting the shoes to prepare them for distribution on Saturday, December 11th.

If you would like to donate shoes, please drop them off at the high school in the hallway near the front entrance during the school day. We will have a donation box in the foyer. We will also accept donations during home football games throughout the fall. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Hailey (21teaguea@glnd.k12.va.us), Easton (22bowmane@glnd.k12.va.us), or me (cwcollier@glnd.k12.va.us) with any questions. See this flyer for details.

Underclass Pictures (UPDATE)

To allow students to dress for Spirit Week, we have postponed our underclass picture days. Instead of this week, we will take Underclass pictures on Thursday, October 28th, and Friday, October 29th, 2021. Freshmen and sophomores will take pictures through PE classes. Juniors will take pictures through English classes. Students can pick up a picture form from their PE or English teachers later in the month. Freshmen and Sophomores not in a PE class will take their pictures during their Bulldog Block. See Ms. Coddington for a form in B122. The last call for Seniors is Monday, October 18th. Please email questions to Ms. Coddington. (ecoddington@glnd.k12.va.us).
