Advance College Academy (ACA) Applications

9th and 10th-grade students, Advance College Academy (ACA) applications are now open!

ACA is a dual enrollment program in which students obtain a transferable Associate of Science degree in Social Science from Reynolds Community College while earning their Goochland High School diploma. ACA students typically take honors classes during their freshman and sophomore years, then college classes during their junior and senior years. While many students apply and are accepted to ACA during their 8th-grade year, students may also apply to enter ACA in the fall of their 9th or 10th grades. Please see the attached application, your school counselor, or Dr. Beth Fowler (bfowler@glnd.k12.va.us) for more information.

All fall ACA applications are due to Ms. Raenell Foster by 3:35 pm on Friday, October 1st, 2021.

Senior Projects (UPDATE)

Our government teachers handed out information about Senior Projects during classes last week. Students must submit the Project Proposal Form to their government teacher by Friday, October 8th, to receive a full credit grade in their government class. Students may return the hard copy form they were given in class or scan the QR code located in the packet and submit the form digitally. Please be aware that your child must complete a Senior Project to participate in Goochland High School's graduation ceremony at the end of the year. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Bolt (abolt@glnd.k12.va.us), our Senior Project Coordinator.

Senior Voter Registration

The Goochland County Voter Registrar will visit government classes on Monday, September 27th, and Tuesday, September 28th. Government teachers will spend a portion of time in class to help students register to vote. Students will need their driver's license/photo ID and Social Security number to register to vote during class. Parents, please make sure your child brings these items to their government class on Monday or Tuesday, and thank you for your support in helping our students become civically engaged adults!

Sick Kicks Shoe Drive

We are excited to announce that Goochland High School will continue the Sick Kicks Shoe Drive program again this year! Sick Kicks was started by a 2020 graduating senior, Eli Bowman, as a way to give back to his community by donating new and gently used shoes to kids in need throughout our community. Now it has been passed down to one of our seniors in the Class of 2022, Hailey Teague, and a junior in the Class of 2023, Easton Bowman.

They will begin collecting shoe donations on Monday, September 27th, and have the final collection day on Wednesday, December 1st. These dates have been chosen to allow maximum time for donations to be accepted and to allow enough time for the organizing, sanitizing, and sorting of the shoes to prepare them for distribution on Saturday, December 11th.

If you would like to donate shoes, please drop them off at the high school in the hallway near the front entrance during the school day. We will have a donation box in the foyer. We will also accept donations during home football games throughout the fall. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Hailey (21teaguea@glnd.k12.va.us), Easton (22bowmane@glnd.k12.va.us), or me (cwcollier@glnd.k12.va.us) with any questions. See this flyer for details.

Softball Interest Meeting

There will be a softball interest meeting in the GHS cafeteria on Monday, September 27th, during Bulldog Block for all girls interested in playing softball. Please reach out to Coach Colwell if you have any questions.

Student Dress

As a reminder, we ask that all students wear their masks over their mouths and noses. This will help limit the number of individuals who are considered a close contact and ultimately reduce the number of students required to quarantine. In addition, we ask that all students follow the GCPS dress code. All clothing must completely cover underwear, the abdomen, and all private body parts. Parents, please review the Goochland County Public Schools Code of Conduct regulations regarding student dress

Parents, please speak with your child about these two student dress topics, and feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. We appreciate your support in ensuring that we keep Goochland High School a safe learning environment, free from distractions.

Suicide Prevention And Awareness Month

To close Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the GHS SCA invites students and faculty members to wear yellow on Thursday, September 30th, and join in solidarity and support this cause.

Underclass Pictures

Underclass pictures will be taken on Monday, October 4th, and Tuesday, October 5th, 2021. Freshmen and sophomores will take pictures through PE classes. Juniors will take pictures through English classes. Students can pick up a picture form from their PE or English teachers later in the month. The last call for Seniors is scheduled for Monday, October 18th. Please email questions to Ms. Coddington. (ecoddington@glnd.k12.va.us).

Yearbooks - 2021 Extras

We ordered too many yearbooks last year! If you would still like a 2021 yearbook to memorialize a unique school year, you can still purchase one using the online school payment system. The cost is $70. Once paid, students can pick up the yearbook from Ms. Coddington in room B122.

Yearbooks - Current Year

To pre-order your 2022 yearbook, please go to balfour.com. Currently, the price is $60.  The price goes up to $70 on January 1, 2022. To avoid over-ordering, we will ONLY order enough yearbooks this year for those who pay by February 1, 2022. Senior ads can be purchased at this site as well.
