Advance College Academy (ACA) Applications

9th and 10th-grade students, Advance College Academy (ACA) applications are now open!

ACA is a dual enrollment program in which students obtain a transferable Associate of Science degree in Social Science from Reynolds Community College while earning their Goochland High School diploma. ACA students typically take honors classes during their freshman and sophomore years, then college classes during their junior and senior years. While many students apply and are accepted to ACA during their 8th-grade year, students may also apply to enter ACA in the fall of their 9th or 10th grades. Please see the attached application, your school counselor, or Dr. Beth Fowler (bfowler@glnd.k12.va.us) for more information.

All fall ACA applications are due to Ms. Raenell Foster by 3:35 pm on Friday, October 1st, 2021.

GCPS Closed

As a reminder, GCPS will be closed on Friday, September 24th, for a Professional Development Day. We hope you have a great three-day weekend!

Homecoming Floats

Attention students! Does your club, grade, or sports team want to create a float for our Homecoming Parade before the Homecoming Game on October 8th? Reach out to Ms. Coddington at ecoddington@glnd.k12.va.us for more information and let the GHS Student Council Association know. We can't wait to see your Bulldog Pride on Friday, October 8th!

Quick Reference to School Contacts:

Safety Drills

This week, we will hold our first “Hide and Lock” drill of the 2021-22 school year. We had to postpone the drill last week, so this is a change from my previous message. We will also hold our first “Tornado” drill of the 2021-22 school year. As stated in an earlier message, we are now required to inform you of these drills at least one week in advance. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we continue to provide a safe learning environment.

Senior Projects

Our government teachers handed out information about Senior Projects during classes last week. Parents, we have included a letter with a signature page that must be signed and returned to your child's government teacher by Tuesday, October 12th. Please be aware that your child must complete a Senior Project to participate in Goochland High School's graduation ceremony at the end of the year. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Bolt (abolt@glnd.k12.va.us), our Senior Project Coordinator.

Underclass Pictures

Underclass pictures will be taken on Monday, October 4th, and Tuesday, October 5th, 2021. Freshmen and sophomores will take pictures through PE classes. Juniors will take pictures through English classes. Students can pick up a picture form from their PE or English teachers later in the month. The last call for Seniors is scheduled for Monday, October 18th. Please email questions to Ms. Coddington (ecoddington@glnd.k12.va.us).

William and Mary Saturday Enrichment Program

William & Mary’s Center for Gifted Education is excited to share our Saturday Enrichment Program (SEP) with your family. SEP is an academically challenging program with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning. The program is not meant to replace the regular school curriculum; rather, it recognizes the importance of allowing able children to explore additional specialized areas of science, mathematics, humanities, and the arts. There are fall virtual courses available in engineering, music, STEM, coding, writing, social science, and many more. Visit the website or view the flyer for more information and to register.

Questions? Contact Ms. Coddington at ecoddington@glnd.k12.va.us.

Yearbooks - 2021 Extras

We ordered too many yearbooks last year! If you would still like a 2021 yearbook to memorialize a very unique school year, you can still purchase one using the online school payment system.  The cost is $70. Once paid, students can pick up the yearbook from Ms. Coddington in room B122.

Yearbooks - Current Year

To pre-order your 2022 yearbook, please go to balfour.com. Currently, the price is $60.  The price goes up to $70 on January 1, 2022. To avoid over-ordering, we will ONLY order enough yearbooks this year for those who pay by February 1, 2022. Senior ads can be purchased at this site as well.
