Goochland High School has officially been recognized as a 2026 National Unified Champion School Banner School by Special Olympics Virginia, earning one of the highest national honors for commitment to campus-wide inclusion and accessibility.
The National Banner recognition is presented to schools that demonstrate exemplary commitment to inclusion through three core components: Special Olympics Unified Sports®, Inclusive Youth Leadership, and Whole-School Engagement. By embedding these standards into daily student life, Goochland High School has successfully cultivated an environment where students of all abilities lead, play, and learn together.
In an official notification to the school, Special Olympics Virginia commended the entire Goochland community for its sustained efforts:

To achieve national banner status, a school must meet ten rigorous standards of excellence developed by a national panel of educators and Special Olympics leadership. Goochland High School’s continuous efforts ensure that equity and shared leadership remain at the forefront of its academic and extracurricular programming.
