⚡️️Energize & Engage Day was a huge success! On Friday, March 29th, students signed up to attend courses ranging from Basic Car Maintenance to Pickleball to College Cooking Hacks (a complete list of courses can be found here!) A huge shout-out to our teachers for providing unique and engaging learning experiences focused on building life-readiness skills, a passion for learning, and FUN. Thank you to our students for stepping out of your comfort zones and embracing this day as a chance to explore something new!

FFA Recognition - Before Spring Break, the Goochland FFA Chapter was recognized and will be honored as a National Chapter at the State FFA Convention. This recognition is part of the National Chapter Award Program, which celebrates FFA chapters that actively embody and implement the organization's mission and strategic goals. Huge shoutouts to Mr. Allen (dallen@glnd.k12.va.us) for all of his hard work in making this happen for GHS!

Fishing Club - Big shoutout to Keyshawn Bratcher for another successful tournament before Spring Break. He teamed up with Isaac Kowalski and Miller Nixon as they dominated the water, securing an impressive 4th place finish with a 5-fish limit, weighing in at 11.68 lbs! To top it off, they landed a monster 4.84 lb big fish! Their stellar performance has punched their ticket to the STATE TOURNAMENT! Congratulations, Bulldogs!

Get to Know Some of our Amazing Bulldogs - Throughout the remainder of the school year, we will be highlighting our “teacher-recognized” students each week.

  • Jackson Edwards is a 10th grader nominated by Ms. Jahangiri! His favorite class is chemistry with her. Jackson plays basketball, and a fun fact about him is that he does not like mayonnaise... Keep being great, Jackson!

  • Molly Flammia is an 11th grader nominated by Mrs. Mistler. Her favorite class is Psychology with Mrs. Reahard! She does travel soccer, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and Math Honor Society. A fun fact is that she read 12 books over the summer -- her favorite series is Throne of Glass. Awesome job, Molly!

Project Discovery- Project Discovery is a non-profit organization that helps prepare students for college/career options after high school. The primary goal of the organization is to guide high school students from where they are, through graduation, and then into a career path, through college access initiatives and program activity options. The Project Discovery high school curriculum emphasizes the students’ future and aids them in planning their goals for after graduation. Project Discovery will meet with students during Bulldog Block once or twice a month starting Tuesday, April 8th, on topics such as study skills, choosing a college, goal setting/life planning, admissions and financial aid, and other topics. They will also invite students to join them on college visits. If your child signed up to participate in lunch last week, you will receive an email from Ms. Ferrell. If you would like your student to participate, please contact Renee Ferrell (rferrell@glnd.k12.va.us), Director of School Counseling.

Mock Interviews- GHS will host our seventh annual Mock Interviews Event on Wednesday, April 9th.  Business leaders from around the Richmond-Metro area have volunteered to spend their morning with us to interview our students and provide them with feedback. Our seniors and junior CTE completers will be participating in this event.  Students should dress in business casual attire for their interview and have their résumé with them, either in a digital format or printed. We look forward to offering this fantastic opportunity for our students to prepare them to be career-ready!

This year, we distributed popcorn during lunch in the fall, and we plan to have music, games, and Italian Ice during lunch in the spring.
