💥💥Staff Recognitions💥💥

Congratulations to Ms. Missy Day (Fine Arts Department) - mday@glnd.k12.va.us and Ms. Amanda Palmer (Library Assistant) apalmer@glnd.k12.va.us for being awarded our January Faculty Bulldog BARKS award. We received over 25 staff member nominations from our faculty, students, and parents. Thank you to all who continue nominating our staff members. All nominations will be shared with those individual staff members!

THIS WEEK at GHS

School Counseling Lessons - January 29th - February 1st - This week, School Counselors will be attending all English classes to talk to students about their course options and help them pick their classes for next year in the PowerSchool Portal.

PowerSchool Parent Portal - January 29th - February 11th - The PowerSchool Parent Portal will be open to Make course requests in PowerSchool for the 2024-2025 School Year.  Parents and students can click “Class Registration” in PowerSchool to make selections and see their teacher recommendations. If your child wants to be recommended for a higher level, we suggest they have a conversation with their teacher or fill out the Parent Override Form.  Seniors requesting an early release will need to fill out the Senior Early Release Form.

National Honor Society Applications - On Wednesday January 31st, prospective NHS members will receive a canvas message and be added to an NHS prospective members canvas course. Prospective members are students in grades 10-12 who have a cumulative GPA of 4.0 and above. Prospective members can complete and submit applications for NHS through the canvas course they were added to. The deadline to submit NHS applications is Wednesday, February 14th at 5:00 pm. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. If you have any questions about the application process, please contact Ms. Borgie (aborgie@glnd.k12.va.us).

Yearbooks - To pre-order your 2024 yearbook, please go to balfour.com. Currently, the price is $70. To guarantee that you receive your yearbook by the end of this year, please make sure to order it by Thursday, February 1st. Seniors can also purchase Senior ads at this site. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Mistler (kmistler@glnd.k12.va.us). 

Pep Rally - The pep rally to celebrate our winter activities has been rescheduled for Friday, February 2nd.  Students who wish to report to the Quiet Room rather than attend the pep rally should complete this Google Form.

Career Day - Career Day has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 8th in the GHS gym from 9:15 am - 12:30 pm.  Students are invited to visit our business partners who will be set up to showcase potential career opportunities and answer questions students may have about career pathways.

Scheduling 2024-25 School Year - Beginning February 12th - School Counselors will meet with EACH student for their Academic and Career Planning meeting to review their course requests for the 2024-2025 school year and discuss their future goals.

Parents can make appointments with their child’s school counselor to attend their child’s Academic and Career Planning meeting, which will take place in February and March.  If you would like to attend your child’s ACP meeting, please contact their school counselor to schedule a meeting or sign up using their calendly.

GCPS Closed - GCPS will be closed on Friday, February 16th (Teacher PD Day) and Monday, February 19th (President’s Day). Enjoy your extended weekend!

PTSA Winter Hoedown Dance - The upcoming WINTER HOEDOWN on Friday, February 16th is from 7:00 - 10:00 pm, is the brainchild of the students! There will be a DJ, straw bales, line dancing (wobble, cupid, cha cha, cotton-eyes, anyone?) 360 photo booth, cornhole, spike ball, and delicious food, all included in the $13 ticket price. All of the details can be found HERE!

  • While PTSA is thrilled to help student leadership plan, execute, and fund their event, THE TRUTH IS THAT IT CANNOT HAPPEN WITHOUT YOUR HELP. PLEASE consider how you can help make it happen for them.

Spring Sports - Spring sports are just around the corner.  Tryouts will start on Tuesday, February 20th.  Please reach out to the coaches for more details.  You must have a physical on file dated after May 1st, 2023 to participate.

SATs at GHS - GHS will be a host site for the new digital SAT test on Saturday, March 9th. Register online at https://satsuite.collegeboard.org by Friday, February 23rd

All Night Graduation

  • Our next meeting will be held at Mi Jalisco on Monday, February 5th at 6:30 pm. This will be a short meeting collecting raffle ticket money and preparing for BINGO. If you would like to donate a gift card or winning gift basket, please bring it to the meeting or arrange a time for us to meet up.

  • Mark your calendars:

    • LOVE BINGO will be held on Saturday, February 10th. The doors open at 5:30 pm and games will start at 6:00 pm. Spaghetti Dinner, snacks, and desserts will be available.  If you are willing to donate gift basket items or gift cards, click below on the sign-up genius link. Graduation - We are excited to announce that we will hold our Class of 2024 graduation services on Saturday, June 8th, at Goochland High School at 7:30 pm (rain date: Sunday, June 9th, at 7:30 pm). Additional details will be forthcoming, but rest assured, our graduation committee will work extremely hard to make this another very special graduation service, one deserving of an exceptional class. Feel free to contact Ms. Reahard (treahard@glnd.k12.va.us) with any questions.

Important Senior Information from School Counseling - As we enter into the spring semester, the GHS school counseling team would like to remind seniors and their parents of the following information:

  • Requests for Mid-Year Grades:

    • Go to PARCHMENT  

      • Request your MID-YEAR TRANSCRIPT for any school that is not on Common App.  

      • Select HOLD FOR GRADES 

    • Counselors will upload mid-year transcripts automatically to Common App if you have a school that requires one.  To see this update, your student must request an update using these directions and allow time for processing your request for an update.

  • College Acceptances:

    • Seniors! We would love to acknowledge your college acceptances as you receive them.  Please fill out this form to let us know how we can recognize YOU!  See your counselor with questions!

  • Scholarships:

    • A lot of new scholarships have been added to the GHS Class of 2024 Scholarships  sheet.  Make sure to take a look!

    • Any scholarships highlighted in blue are through the Community Foundation.  Attached is their application guide to help with their process. Scholarship Application Guide.pdf

  • Financial Aid:

    • The FAFSA is open!
