AP Exam Registration

Students in Advanced Placement Courses have the option to take the AP exam associated with that course.  Higher scores on the exam can result in possible college credit depending on the college/university. AP exams are held in May; however, the College Board (the governing body of Advanced Placement Courses) requires registration by mid-November. There are fees associated with the test. Tests are $98 dollars per exam. If your student qualifies for free or reduced lunch, the exam price is $63. Payment is made to GHS.  We will then pay the College Board. Paper copies for registration with detailed information will go home with students this week. An online version can be found HERE. Registration forms are due to GHS by Friday,  November 10th! Please contact Dr. Rainbolt (srainbolt@glnd.k12.va.us) with any questions.

Marking Period 2 Interim

The MP2 interim is on Wednesday, November 15th. Please take a moment to view your child's grades in Canvas or PowerSchool. If you have specific questions about their grades, please contact their teacher.

PowerSchool & Canvas Reminders

As Marking Period 2 begins, we would like to remind you that official course grades can be found in PowerSchool and are updated weekly. If you do not have a PowerSchool account, please email Catherine Richards, our Instructional Technology Coach, at crichards@glnd.k12.va.us for your access code.

Canvas will allow you to view your child’s assignments, course content, and announcements from teachers. If you do not have a parent Canvas account, please follow the directions here to get started.

Remote Learning Day

Tuesday, November 7th, Election Day, has been identified as a remote learning day for students.  This means students will not come on-site to school on this day.

  • Instruction will be delivered asynchronously.  This means our teachers will provide students with direction before November 7th for continued learning so that they can work independently without the need for support from an adult.  We do not want to create additional stress for our families on this day. The student work will be posted on Canvas.

Sense of Belonging Survey

Linked here, please find a preview copy of the GCPS Sense of Belonging and Inclusion Survey that will be administered during school hours to students at GHS in grades 9-12 on Monday, November 6th in Block 2. The purpose of the survey is to provide input on how GCPS is doing towards meeting our annual School Board Equity Goals established per policy JFHB/GBAA so that we can create an even better experience for all of our students. Any parent wishing to opt their child out of taking this survey may do so by emailing Catherine Richards, GHS Survey Coordinator, at crichards@glnd.k12.va.us

The feedback from this survey is extremely valuable as we continually work to provide our students with the best experience possible. Thank you.

Participants must be Goochland residents, high-school students under 18, and possess a minimum of a learner's permit. As a bonus, lunch will be provided to all participants.

Veterans’ Day Ceremony

On Monday, November 13th, GHS will hold our annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony at 9:30 am in the school auditorium. Our seniors and juniors will attend the event in person, and our freshmen and sophomores will view the ceremony via live stream from their block 1 classrooms. We also ask that our students and teachers wear red, white, and blue that day to honor our service members.

Please wish our MCJROTC Cadets and Band members luck as we celebrate America and those brave few who answered her clarion call to serve in her defense.

We are planning on keeping a large number of these athletes, but at this point, some cuts will still have to happen. We'll be focusing on skill, athleticism, experience, effort, character, and need (at a given weight class).
