All nominations will be shared with those individual staff members!

Academic Awards Night

Academic Awards Night will be Monday, October 23rd at 6:30 pm in the Goochland High School Auditorium. This evening we will celebrate the academic achievements of our students from last school year including AP Scholars, Book Awards, Academic Letter Awards (honor roll), College Board National Recognition, and our students in honor societies. School Counseling sent out a thrill share message on October 9th if your child will be recognized at this event.  If you got that message, there was a form for you to fill out in the email.  All students and family members are welcome to attend!

AP Exam Registration

Students in Advanced Placement Courses have the option to take the AP exam associated with that course.  Higher scores on the exam can result in possible college credit depending on the college/university. AP exams are held in May; however, the College Board (the governing body of Advanced Placement Courses) requires registration by mid-November. There are fees associated with the test. Tests are $98 dollars per exam. If your student qualifies for free or reduced lunch, the exam price is $63. Payment is made to GHS.  We will then pay the College Board. Paper copies for registration with detailed information will go home with students this week. An online version can be found HERE. Registration forms are due to GHS by Friday,  November 10th! Please contact Dr. Rainbolt (srainbolt@glnd.k12.va.us) with any questions.

Kindness Campaign

October is Bullying Prevention Month and for this month, we will be promoting one of our core values, kindness, at GHS.  We will have a weekly quote on our announcements and ask teachers to catch students who are demonstrating kindness to let us know so those students can be recognized.  We will also have a Kindness Campaign from October 23rd - October 27th.

GCPS will celebrate Unity Day by wearing orange on Thursday, October 26th (Unity Day is actually October 18th, but we will be in intercessions that week).  The goal of Unity Day is to bring together youth, parents, educators, businesses, and community members across the nation to emphasize the message that bullying is not acceptable and that all students deserve to be safe in school, online, and in the community.

Parking Passes

If you have not picked up your parking pass, you can do so before school, during lunches, with a pass on a travel day of Bulldog Block, and after school. Please contact Ms. Simmons (lsimmons@glnd.k12.va.us) with questions.

Senior Portrait Reminder

Senior portrait make-up day is scheduled for TOMORROW, Monday, October 16! You should have received an email from Prestige Photography by Lifetouch with scheduling information. You can also access the sign-up directly by going to prestigeportraits.com.

There will also be a Last Call Senior Portrait Day on Friday, November 3rd. This will be the absolute last chance to get the drape/tux yearbook photo done at GHS. Anyone who has not yet gotten a portrait taken after our October 16th date will be placed on that schedule. Specific time slots will be made known to seniors in the week before November 3rd.

If you plan on taking your portraits with an outside photographer, please plan to have a digital file sent to Mrs. Mistler (kmistler@glnd.k12.va.us) by Friday, December 1st. The requirements for senior portraits taken with other photographers are a blue background; vertical, formal poses; 300 dpi; and wallet-size crop.

Those who have already taken senior portraits need to select their yearbook pose! Log in to your account on Lifetouch to select which formal pose you’d like to appear in the yearbook! If you don’t do this by December 1st, then the yearbook staff will do it for you!

Sense of Belonging Survey

Linked here, please find a preview copy of the GCPS Sense of Belonging and Inclusion Survey that will be administered during school hours to students at GHS in grades 9-12 on November 6th in Block 2. The purpose of the survey is to provide input on how GCPS is doing towards meeting our annual School Board Equity Goals established per policy JFHB/GBAA so that we can create an even better experience for all of our students. Any parent wishing to opt their child out of taking this survey may do so by emailing Catherine Richards, GHS Survey Coordinator, at crichards@glnd.k12.va.us

The feedback from this survey is extremely valuable as we continually work to provide our students with the best experience possible. Thank you.
