Athletics Survey

Since we have closed out the winter athletic season, our athletics department would like to hear feedback from our parents and student-athletes. Parents, please use the link to the 2022/23 Parent End of Season Survey, and students should use the link to the 2022/23 Student End of Season Survey to provide us with commendations and suggestions for improvement. We look forward to reviewing the results.

Athletic Training Website

Every year many athletic trainers and athletes support Athletic Training month in March. Some of Mrs. Black's Sports Medicine students have created a website to inform all about athletic trainers, including what they do, where they work, how to become one, and more. Check out their site here to learn more!

Boys Basketball Open Gym

Boys basketball will have open gym on Thursdays from 3:45 - 5:15 pm starting on April 13th. Contact Coach Gordon for any questions.

Ending the Silence Program for 9th Grade Students

The School Counselors along with the National Alliance on Mental Illness Central Virginia will be introducing a program in our 9th grade Health & PE classes called “Ending the Silence”.

There will be a 50-minute presentation designed to educate our students on mental health, mental illness, signs of suicide and resources available to them.  Each presentation is led by two trained presenters, one being a young adult who tells the story of their mental health recovery journey.  Our counselors will then break each class into small groups to process the presentation and reemphasize how to get help for themselves or a friend in need.  We will have extra counselors and our Mental Health Counselor will also be available for individual conversations with students during this week.  These presentations will be from April 11th - April 14th in your child’s Health & PE class.

If you would like to opt your child out of the presentation, please contact your child’s school counselor by Monday, April 10th. Also, if you would like more information about the program or view program resources, please contact Renee Ferrell (rferrell@glnd.k12.va.us), the Director of School Counseling.

Report Cards - Marking Period 3

Marking Period 3 report cards will be distributed to all students during their block 1 on Wednesday, March 29th.  If students are absent on Wednesday, they should check in with their Day 1/Block 1 teacher or school counselor to receive their report card.

Senior Projects

Seniors, you have less than three months to graduation. If you have not started your Senior Project, now is the time to get it done. Do not put this off until the last minute. Remember that you must complete a Senior Project to participate in graduation. If you need help, please contact Ms. Bolt (abolt@glnd.k12.va.us) or your government teacher as soon as possible.

Senior Cap and Gown Pick-up

Attention seniors: Jostens will be here to deliver caps and gowns, as well as other senior products ordered earlier in the year, on Thursday, March 30th, during all lunches.  Please ensure you pick up all items from Jostens on this day.  If you have not yet ordered your cap and gown, please email our Jostens rep, Sarah Dunn (sarah.dunn@jostens.com), as soon as possible to ensure your order arrives in time for graduation! We look forward to seeing you all on March 30th!

Sense of Belonging Survey

Linked here, please find a preview copy of the 6-12th grade GCPS Sense of Belonging and Inclusion Survey that will be administered at GHS during Block 2 on Tuesday, April 18th. The purpose of the survey is to provide input on how GCPS is doing towards meeting our annual School Board Equity Goals established per policy JFHB/GBAA so that we can create an even better experience for all of our students. Any parent wishing to opt their child out of taking this survey may do so by emailing our Survey Coordinator, Catherine Richards, at crichards@glnd.k12.va.us

Spring Break

GCPS will be closed during the week of April 3rd - April 7th. Please enjoy this time with your family!
