Last night the GCPS School Board approved the 2020-21 Program of Studies. This is a new resource for students and families that provides a “catalogue-style” overview of the division’s programming, along with a comprehensive list of course offerings at Goochland High School. Moving forward, our program of studies will be updated annually and distributed each winter. This resource will be available digitally from each GCPS school’s websites, and a limited number of hard copy catalogues will also be available soon for review at each of our schools. In the meantime, you can access a digital copy of the 2020-21 Program of Studies by clicking here.
A printout of students’ course requests will be sent home with them on Tuesday, March 10th for parental approval. Parents, please review these requests with your son or daughter and note any changes that you would like made. All requests, regardless of changes, should be signed by both the student and the parent, then returned to Bulldog Block teachers later in the week.
All course requests for the 2020-2021 school year must be submitted through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The portal will open Monday, February 10th, and will close Thursday, February 13th. Instructions on how to select courses are attached HERE. Please remember that student requests impact our decisions on whether or not we offer a course for the 2020-2021 school year. Please work with our school counselors and teachers to ensure that your child’s course requests reflect his or her interests!
Attention 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students and parents: GHS will host a Curriculum & Transition Night on Wednesday, February 5th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. We will host open panel discussions regarding our ACA, CTE, AP and Fine Arts programs throughout the evening. It’s a great chance to learn more about all of our course offerings, as we prepare for the 2020-21 course selection window. I will send out more information as we get closer to the event. Please mark your calendars now and make plans to attend!
Every October we celebrate Kindness Month at GHS. Kindness is one of our core values, and this month we are challenging all Bulldogs to focus on doing kind acts for others. Each day we are giving students a Kindness Challenge to complete and take the time to recognize the kindness of others. Please encourage your son or daughter to participate!
Senior parents are cordially invited to join the School Counseling Team in the Learning Commons at 5:30 pm on Thursday, September 12th for Senior Information Night. The evening’s informative presentation will cover topics including senior projects and the college application process. Juniors, are you and your parents interested in getting a sneak peek into these issues, as well? If so, please feel free to join us!
