Spring MAP Assessments
Spring MAPS testing will begin the week of March 22nd in Math and English classes. Testing can be virtual or in-person during class time. MAPs testing is a chance for students and teachers to see student growth over the school year.
All students in English 10 and English 11 must sit for the Writing SOL. According to state guidelines, this test must be completed in a secure testing environment on campus. The Writing SOL is a two-part test. The first component, Multiple Choice, will be administered on March 17th. The second component, the short essay, will be given on March 24th. Students who are not in English 10 or English 11 will complete asynchronous work from home on those two days.
Transportation will be provided to and from school for students who must sit for the Writing SOL. All students have been given a google form to complete through English classes to indicate whether or not they will need transportation. On both days, students will arrive on campus at 9:00 am. All students will undergo a health screen before reporting to his or her testing location. Testing will follow social distancing guidelines and desks in testing rooms will be six-feet apart. In addition, all students will be required to wear a mask. Students will also have the opportunity to eat lunch on campus if desired. Students will need to bring their own computer fully charged.
Passing the Writing SOL is a graduation requirement. Recently, state emergency guidelines have been passed decreasing the pass rate from 400 to 350 for this year only. Students who attempt the SOL once, score at least a 350, and pass their English class will earn the verified credit in Writing needed for graduation. If you have any questions about this, please contact your son’s or daughter’s school counselor.
