GHS Distance Learning Updates
GCPS Virtual Learning Plan:
- Beginning August 24th, students will access classes on a daily schedule (see below) remotely through Google Meet, in real-time, with their assigned teachers. Traditional, in-person instruction, to begin the school year, will not take place as it has in the past. However, students with limited internet at home will be able to access distance learning from designated locations inside the school where they will have access to the school’s internet. Working families who need direct supervision of their child during the day may also send their child to school. All students are expected to participate in the synchronous (live) instruction through Google Meet every morning regardless of location.
Numbers:
- Instructional materials will be delivered to students weekly through Numbers documents accessible via Schoology. Numbers is an Apple application that has been pre-installed on student laptops. Historically, most individuals used Numbers to create spreadsheets; however, GHS teachers will use Numbers to create dynamic multimedia notebooks for students to engage in learning.
- The first Numbers document for each course will be available in Schoology on Monday and Tuesday of the first week of school (the first-day students see teachers synchronously).
- Weekly packages containing these documents will be uploaded to Schoology by teachers by 5 PM every Friday for the following week to support the synchronous learning that will take place daily.
- Students should download the packages from Schoology by 8 AM on Monday each week. Please see the schedule below as an example of the weekly upload and download process.

- We will be providing Numbers video tutorials to both students and teachers in the upcoming weeks to support families in using this tool. While teachers will focus on teaching Numbers basics during the first week of school to ensure students feel comfortable using the program, we encourage students to explore the Numbers application on their laptop before the first day of school.
Asynchronous clarification:
- While synchronous (live) learning experiences provide the most robust educational experiences for our students and should be the primary source of our students’ education, we understand that some of our families may not be able to access synchronous learning experiences. As such, asynchronous (not-live) learners may need to complete alternative assignments each week in place of participating in synchronous learning activities to receive grades for synchronous learning assignments. Suppose students or parents have specific questions about the weekly instructional requirements in a particular class. In that case, we strongly encourage them to send an email or Schoology message to his or her teacher.
Please see the attached GCPS parent guides below for additional information.
