Suicide Prevention Month
Our School Counseling department would like to inform everyone that September is Suicide Prevention Month. We can all prevent suicide by familiarizing ourselves with the signs of suicide, helping others in crisis, and connecting others with resources. The acronym ACT can help students remember the steps to follow if someone tells them they are thinking of committing suicide: Acknowledge their statement, let them know you Care, and Tell a trusted adult. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is also here to help. Caring individuals willing to connect others with counselors can be reached at 1-800-273-TALK. Individuals can also chat online with a caring professional.

Attendance Awareness Month
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success, and families play a key role in making sure students make it to school each day and understand why attendance is important. Frequent absences can be a sign that your student is losing interest in school, struggling with their work, or facing a different type of issue. Make sure to talk with your children about the importance and expectation of coming to school each day, help your child stick to daily routines, try to schedule appointments as best you can outside of school hours, and only keep your child home when truly sick. Complaints of stomach and head aches may be signs on anxiety- something about which to speak with your school counselor.
Please see the following information from Attendance Works.
