The Goochland Meltdown!

The Goochland High School Girls Basketball and JROTC present “The Goochland Meltdown” haunted trail, on Friday, October 27th and Saturday, October 28th.

Come join them for a night of spooky fun and terrifying excitement as you make your way through a haunted trail of horrors!

This event will take place at the GHS football stadium from 7:00pm-11:00pm, and the cost is $5 per person, or $8 for two entries into the trail. There will be concessions, a bonfire, pumpkin carving, and a costume contest.  Children 11 years and younger will need a parent or guardian present, and it is recommended that younger children attend on the 27th.  Let the goosebumps spread and the night be filled with thrills!

Academic Awards Ceremonies: October 18, 2017 at 8:45 & 10:30!

 

Wednesday morning, GHS will proudly recognize the academic accomplishments of students from the 2016-17 school year at our annual awards assemblies. Sophomores will be recognized at an 8:45 assembly, and juniors and seniors will receive their awards at 10:30. Invitations have been previously mailed to the homes of students who will be receiving an academic award.

PTSA All Night Graduation Committee Hosts The Driven To Give Event on October 21, 2017!

Driven to Give Event

Come out to Cabela’s in Short Pump on Saturday October 21st from 9 to 3 to support the PTSA All Night Graduation Committee with the Driven To Give event.  Richmond Ford Lincoln will give a $20 donation for every test drive and donate to the all-night graduation committee. No purchase is required, just a quick drive around the block. Please come out and support this great event!

Athletic Booster’s Chili Cook-Off & Powder Puff Game: October 18, 2017 @ 6pm!

Chili Cook-Off

The GHS Athletic Boosters will host their annual Chili Cook Off on Wednesday, October 18th. The Powder Puff football game with the junior girls going against the senior girls will also take place. The event starts at 6. The Boosters would love more chili entries. It’s only $15 to enter, but you can win up to $100 with the best tasting chili and best decorated table. Chili set-up starts at 5:00pm at the football field in front of the bleachers. Please contact Tanya Lafoon (Lafoon@globalweb.net) or Susan Doczi (sdoczi@aol.com) if you are interested. Concessions will be open for fries, hotdogs, candy and drinks. It’s only $2 to taste these amazing recipes, so come ready for some great chili!

Partnership for the Future Presents “Bootcamp: A College Preparation Seminar”

Partnership for the Future is hosting their 5th Annual Boot Camp: A College Prep Seminar.  This opportunity is open to all high school students.   The Boot Camp will be held on Saturday, November 4th at the Greater Richmond Convention Center from 8:45am-4:00pm.  Partnership for the Future will also have a special Parent Information Session from 2-4pm to help parents better prepare their children for the this next step in life.

This event will cover information of the following topics:

  • Understanding FAFSA, Its Common Myths, & the Financial Aid Process
  • What to do After the SAT/ACT
  • Budgeting for College and Beyond
  • Evaluating the “Right Fit” College for You
  • Interview/Resume Skills

There will also be a special career fair.  Lunch will be provided.

The event runs from 8:45am until 4:00pm, with check-in beginning at 8:00am.

Students must register online here.

If you are interested in participating but have concerns regarding transportation, please have your student see their school counselor.

October is Bully Prevention Month!

Anti-Bullying Month

October is Bully Prevention month, and GHS is happy again to be a part of this celebration. This year’s theme is “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand.”  Students will be invited to participate in a variety of events throughout the month designed to promote our GHS Culture of Kindness, ranging from a door decorating contest to signing a pledge to stand against bullying.   Students can look for the first of these events to kick off in a colorful way next week before they even enter the building!
