Cancer Awareness Week (1/30-2/3) and “Ballin’ for a Cure” Benefit Basketball Game (2/3)

Pancreatic Cancer Awareness

Every senior at GHS must complete a senior project to walk across the stage at graduation. Projects come in all various shapes and sizes, but A.J. Austin and Jack Twombly’s project has taken the form of a Cancer Awareness week, capped off by Goochland’s second annual “Ballin for a Cure” benefit basketball game on Friday, February 3rd at 7:00pm at Goochland High School. Proceeds from ticket, raffle and T-shirt sales will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

In addition to the game, throughout the week staff and students are encouraged to wear colors that represent awareness to find cures for the different forms of cancer. Here are the color themes for the week:

Monday: Wear Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Tuesday: Wear White for Lung Cancer Awareness

Wednesday: Wear Light Blue for Prostate Cancer Awareness

Thursday: Wear Royal Blue for Colon Cancer Awareness

Friday: Wear Purple for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness

Minding Your Mind Parent Chat Night: January 25th

CKG Parent Chat Night Flyer

Attention Parents: Drew Bergman, a Minding Your Mind speaker, will share his life story of living with a mental health disorder on Wednesday, January 25th from 7-8:30pm.  Drew has received numerous awards for his advocacy in the area of mental health.  He speaks to thousands of students and parents each year.  Locally, he has spoken at Midlothian High and Trinity.  Other Minding Your Mind speakers have spoken at Deep Run High, Monacan High, Open High, Maggie Walker Governor’s School.  Speakers will be in numerous other schools in 2017 and at GHS on February 7th!

This is a great opportunity for GHS parents to hear what teens are hearing through the Cameron K. Gallagher sponsored “Minding Your Mind” program offered in partnership with the Minding Your Mind Foundation.  CKG staff will be available to your answer questions.

The program is free and at their our office, but they ask that you register at:  http://www.ckgfoundation.org/parentchatnight/.  Feel free to share with your friends or others that may find this of interest.
