Announcing the Honors Program, Senior Saturday and Open House at Reynolds Community College

As spring break approaches, Reynolds would like to make you aware of some new information available.  They have implemented an Honors Program for students who may not be immediately prepared to transfer to a four year institution but would like to continue taking challenging course work.  The benefit is to have the ‘honors’ designation on degree or diploma.  This may also qualify for transfer to an honors program at a four year institution.

Secondly, Senior Saturday is slated for Saturday, April 23rd beginning at 9 AM on Parham Road Campus.  Onsite application completion assistance will be available as well as more information about the honors program, great expectations (students emancipating out of the foster care system) and scholarships.

Lastly, they will host a series of parent open houses in June to better experience what each campus has to offer and an opportunity to interact with administrators and faculty as well as learn more about campus resources.

Fliers are posted outside the School Counseling Office for more information.

Central Virginia Post Society of American Military Engineer

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), in collaboration with the Military Services, offers a series of engineering/STEM camps designed  for High School students who excel in math, science and technology courses and are interested in pursuing engineering, architecture, or a related field in college.  These one-week camps are high energy, hands-on events for students from across the country and around the world.  The camps are led by professional staff of engineers from both private industry and the uniformed military services.

The Central Virginia Post is offering a sponsorship for high school students to attend the SAME Engineering & Construction Camps at U.S. Army at Vicksburg, MS and the U.S. Air Force Academy Camp, at Colorado Springs, CO.  The scholarship covers half the registration cost and all travel expenses for a sponsored camper.  Please note that the deadline for receiving applications is April 1, 2016.

Information about the Engineering and Construction Camps and application is provided on the SAME website:  http://www.same.org/STEMCAMPS

Network of enlightened Women

Network of enlightened Women (NeW), a 501(c)(3) is a nonprofit educational organization that works to train and educate the next generation of female leaders on college campuses across the country.

Every year NeW hosts an annual retreat called the Young Women’s Leadership Retreat, an application-only leadership program that invites leadership-focused college women (incoming and current) from across the country to attend.  This year, the retreat will take place July14-July 17 at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA.

The Retreat prepares and inspires young women to be effective leaders when faced with differing cultural and political climates on campus.  Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from a wide range of guest speakers and network with NeW Alumnae, mentors, and peers.

The Young Women’s Leadership Retreat is open to both incoming Fall 2016 college freshmen and current college students.  The program will be split into two tracks – one for rising freshmen and the other for upperclassmen (sophomores through seniors).  Personalized workshops will be given focusing on the distinct challenges each group will experience.  The two tracks will merge at points during the Retreat for panel discussions, leadership trainings, and team building events.

The retreat is a great opportunity for incoming freshmen and upper classmen alike.  The freshmen will have the opportunity to learn leadership skills from experts and attend workshops preparing them for college life.  Upperclassmen will gain mentoring and networking experience as they build relationships and guide the younger students.

To learn more about the Retreat and to apply, please visit the website at:  http://enlightenedwomen.org/2016-young-womens-leadership-retreat.
