Otis College promotes excellence, innovation, and rigor in education within a caring collaborative environment. Students are encouraged to be individualistic, passionate, and joyful in their approach to art and design. Established in 1918 and located in Southern California on the west side of Los Angeles, Otis College is L.A.’s first independent, professional school of art and design.
Summer of Art provides ages 15 and older with a college immersion experience in art and design. Whether students seek to strengthen and enhance their art skills or have limited training but a strong interest in art or design, this is an ideal way to experience what it is like to attend one of the most influential art and design colleges in the country.
This year Summer of Art will take place July 5th – July 29th, 2016. From day one, students are immersed in a creative environment with peers who are passionate about art and design. The program kicks off with “Exploring Creativity,” a series of workshops dedicated to expanding the imagination and discovering innovative approaches to creative challenges. Each day, students engage in hands-on studio classes and labs in both a chosen Specialization course and Foundation Studio course. Their instructors are award winning, practicing professionals. Many teach in Otis’ undergraduate and graduate programs. Class sizes are limited to ensure personalized, in-depth learning. Courses meet 9:00 a, – 4:20 pm, Monday through Friday, with work to be completed outside of class. Upon successful completion of the program, 2 units of college credit for Specialization courses and 1 unit of college credit for Foundation Studio courses are awarded. The program culminates with a final exhibition where students share their best work with peers and family. Housing is available for students ages 15-18. For students over 18 years, the housing staff can provide information on additional housing options. Scholarships are available based on financial need and/or merit. They also offer an English Language Immersion Program for students with high-beginner English language skills or above.
