Near the end of fourth block today, the doorway opened to Mrs. EYP’s classroom and a small delegation entered. A television camera captured the scene that included surprised students, visiting colleagues, and a speechless teacher. The annual process of announcing the Teacher of the Year was about to conclude. As students and guests watched, I had the privilege of sharing the news: Erin Yearout-Patton is the 2014 Teacher of the Year for Goochland High School.
Mrs. EYP, as she is known, teaches Virginia and U. S. Government to all of the 12th grade students and serves enthusiastically as the 12th grade class sponsor. Mrs. EYP has been described as energetic, enthusiastic, resourceful, and persistent. Most of all she is a dedicated teacher who is very passionate about teaching government and helping students understand their civic responsibilities.
A visit to her classroom will always find students engaged in productive learning activities that help them experience factual learning with a focus on their future. Seniors are special to Mrs. EYP and they have immense respect for her. For all that she seeks to accomplish in her class on a daily basis, Mrs. EYP continually demonstrates support for the total school program affecting all students. She has proven herself to be an outstanding teacher and we salute her as our 2014 Teacher of the Year.
